Troubleshooting For Petrol Strimmers

Problem Possible Cause Solution

Engine will not start

1- There is no spark

2- There is no fuel

3- The engine may be flooded

1- You need to check the spark plug. Clean it or replace it if necessary.

2- If there is no fuel reaching the engine you need to check why. Push the primer bulb until it is full of fuel. If the primer bulb does not fill then this means that the primary fuel delivery system is blocked. You need expert help with this. If the primer bulb does fill it can mean that your engine is flooded.

3- If your engine is flooded, set your choke lever to the run position. Next squeeze the throttle and pull the rope repeatedly. Eventually the engine will start and run.

Engine will not reach maximum power and gives off excessive smoke.

3- If your engine is flooded, set your choke lever to the run position. Next squeeze the throttle and pull the rope repeatedly. Eventually the engine will start and run.

1- There is an idle speed screw on the carburetor on your petrol strimmer that needs to be adjusted.

1- Locate the idle speed screw on your carburetor of the strimmer and turn it clockwise. This will increase the speed.

The strimmer line will not advance correctly

1- The actual line could be welded to itself

2- The line maybe nearly finished and there is not enough line left on the spool.

3- The line has actually worn too short

4- The line has become tangled on the spool.

5- The speed of the strimmer engine is too slow.

1- The thing to do in this case is to get some silicone spray and lubricate the line with it.

2- You need more line. So install some. Make sure that you have the correct line for the job and your strimmer.

3- Pull the lines whilst at the same time pressing down on the spool retainer. You may need to also alternate pressing down and releasing the spool retainer to get the required results.

4- If the line gets tangled, simply remove the line from the spool and rewind it.

5- In this case you need to advance the line whilst the engine is a full speed or throttle.

1- You are cutting the tall grass at ground level

2- You are only operating the petrol strimmer at half or part full speed.

1- When cutting long grass you should always cut from the top down to prevent this type of wrapping.

2- When cutting tall or thick grass you need to always operate petrol strimmers at full throttle.
