Sometimes when you go out shopping you just happen to come across something that really appeals due to its simplicity and novelty. And that was the case with the Thirsty Light Moisture Meter.

The Thirsty Light Moisture Meter is a digital plant moisture sensor which is intuitive, unobtrusive and which is simply left in the plant pot and continuously monitors the moisture content in the soil every second. When the soil becomes dry the Thirsty Light Moisture Meter will begin to blink and alert you that it is time to water your plant. Ingenious and so simple!

The thirsty light moisture meter is a plant moisture sensor that will blink a LED to alert you when it is time to water your plants. When left in the soil it is unobtrusive and labours every second to give you continual testing. Within the thirsty light moisture meter is a circuit which can sense 5 different levels of dryness. How To Use The Thirsty Light Moisture Meter

If plants are not watered correctly they will get injured or die. Overwatering is just as harmful to a plant as underwatering. The thirsty light moisture meter has been designed to help you avoid both and keep your plants healthy.

You use one thirsty light sensor for each of your plants and simply leave the meter in the plant pot all the time. This way the soil is monitored continuosly in the most convenient manner. You can also use one single thirsty light meter to test every plant in your home quickly and accurately.

To use properly take the Thirsty Meter out of the packaging and insert batteries. Turn the power on and the LED will emit one single long blink to show its powered up. Insert the moisture meter in to the soil of your plant pot so that the pod at the top is about 1 inch up from the soil line. Choose your positioning of the meter to give you the best visibilty. And thats it! Leave the meter in the plant pot and you will have continual soil moisture readings. Check above for the blinking patterns and what they indicate.

How To Care For The Thirsty Light Moisture Meter

This moisture meter has been designed for use with potted plants and not outdoor plants in the garden.

The meter is water resistant but you must avoid immersing the pod at the top in water.

When you water your plants do not pour water over the top pod.

The probe of the Thirsty Light meter is made from brass. It will change in colour after coming into contact with soil and water.

After a while of sitting in a plant pot the meter will collect mineral deposits. So once in a while remove the meter from the plant pot and wipe the probe clean with a damp cloth and dry it.

Troubleshooting For The Thirsty Light Moisture Meter

In order for the meter to work at its best, good contact with soil is necessary. The Thirsty Light is not recommended for orchids or coarse and sandy soils.

Loose soil can give false readings to the Thirsty Light. When you insert the moisture meter in to soil do not wiggle it about as this will cause the soil to loosen.

Dissolved fertilizer can also make the Thirsty Light give false readings. Here you will get wet readings when in fact the soil is dry.
